Mass with Archbishop Sample
This morning Archbishop Alexander Sample celebrated the Eucharist with the communities of Mount Angel Abbey and Mount Angel Seminary. The liturgy was part of his first pastoral visit to the hilltop.
At the beginning of the liturgy, Abbot Gregory Duerr, OSB, greeted and welcomed the Archbishop on behalf of the monastic and seminary communities.
In his homily, Archbishop Sample said he was looking forward to visiting Mount Angel Abbey and Seminary within hours of learning he would be the new Archbishop of Portland in Oregon. He looked forward to the visit because of his love of liturgy and his love and concern for priestly formation.
He said that the Church needs to be rebuilt and renewed so that all of those involved with the seminary can bring the Gospel to the world. We are each called to contemplate the face of Christ so that others can see His face as well.
Music for the liturgy was provided by Mrs. Mryna Keough, assistant professor of liturgy and music, and the seminary choir.
